This study focuses on the creation of economic innovation out of tradition in small–medium-size hospitality industry enterprises in the north-eastern part of Thailand. We looked at the role of the roots of the business on its development and the roots vary from existing old traditional accommodations, to accommodations that developed out of a restaurants or a totally different types of hospitality related or unrelated businesses. We also looked as hospitality institutions that developed out of an existing building that could house accommodations or be expanded to a hotel. With the structure naturally comes the location. In real estate as in tourism location plays a very important role, location, location and location. So a three-star hotel may have developed out of a homestay or a bed and breakfast or a simple family restaurant. We did not look at the hotels that were the result of planned developments of real estate developer and hotel franchise operator. Innovation is broadly defined as a new idea, method or product. Product, process or service innovations may have their roots in the traditions of the business. Traditions are long established customs, believes that have been transmitted over generations or time in general terms. The study is quantitative in nature and explored a convenience sample 100 small–medium-size hospitality enterprises in the north-eastern part of Thailand by administrating a pretested survey to the owner/operators. The sample is a good representation of the hospitality industry in Thailand under the business model of tradition as an engine for innovation and the ongoing academic debate which generates implications for hospitality industry best practices and as strategic resource.  相似文献

The treatment of endogenous inputs and outputs in the estimation of multiple–output distance functions is an important issue that has been largely ignored in the hotel and tourism literature. It is well known that directional distance functions with endogeneity are difficult to estimate using maximum likelihood-based methods since the specification of additional identifiable equations for each endogenous variable is highly challenging. In this paper, we propose a limited-information approach to models of this type using a flexible reduced form for the endogenous variables. This approach allows us to easily estimate technical efficiency and does not rely on information about input or output prices, which are typically unavailable. We employ Bayesian methods and propose and use novel posterior measures of weakness and relevance of instruments in an application involving data from major US hotels. We show that controlling for endogeneity has a substantial impact for relative and absolute hotel performance.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Hotels, as one of the major tourism service providers, must offer high quality products to survive in this severely competitive environment so that they can preserve their competitive advantage dealing with other competitors. Therefore, considering the high importance of this subject, this study aims to analyze the quality of hotels supply chain in Isfahan- Iran. On this account, the literature of quality in supply chain is reviewed and seven factors affecting the supply chain are identified. Then research hypotheses are raised in accordance with the seven factors. Data was gathered using questionnaire and Partial Least Square was applied in order to analyze the data. The obtained results indicate that focus on customer, supply chain quality leadership, supply chain quality strategies, supply chain quality information and process approach results in an increase in supply chain quality; meanwhile, the two hypotheses regarding supplier quality management and human resources development of supply chain are rejected. The results of this article will be beneficial to hotels which want to increase the level of their service quality.  相似文献

Many studies have shown that structured interviews have better predictive validity than unstructured interviews. The aim of this study was, then, to examine if recruiters in Swiss hotels use structured interviews to select candidates. Results obtained on 150 recruiters indicate that selection interviews are rather unstructured. They also show that selection interviews are more structured in larger hotels than in smaller hotels and in chain hotels than in independent hotels. Finally, and contrarily to one of the hypotheses, selection interviews are not more structured in four-star and five-star hotels than in three-star hotels.  相似文献

经济型酒店作为一种提供有限服务的新型酒店,近年来在我国发展迅猛。在外国著名酒店经济型品牌纷纷入住中国,与本土品牌一较高下的今天,基于经济型酒店的同质化弱点,建议本土经济型酒店采取一定措施,从而在竞争中保持不败。文章借鉴了迪斯尼主题公园的四个标志性特征:主题化、混合消费、商品化和表演性劳动,提出了本土经济型酒店主题化等一系列创新性建议,为其差异化经营提供了一定的借鉴意义。  相似文献

Changes in the hotel and catering industry are analysed within the context of technical change and economic growth in the economy. The implications of economic growth for the industry depend on the causes of economic growth and the disposition of increased output through the changing pattern of demand. Increasing relative demands on the service sector will lead to increasingly capital-intensive and standardised production away from the point of service. The greater flow of market goods relative to household time resources causes adjustments in household activities, with more market-oriented consumption. In the restaurant sector, less on-site more off-site large-scale production will necessitate a new approach to the organisation of labour. There will be a continuing upgrading of consumer demands. The development of pub catering is seen as just one aspect of this. The hotel sector will face increasing competition from self-catering accommodation facilities, and customers will rely less on the catering facilities provided.  相似文献

This paper describes how organizational form can solve the problem of commitment that complicates exchange. I illustrate this by analyzing the commitment problem of hotel chains. Consideration of the commitment problem indicates that hotel chains are better off naming their units the same, so as to create the potential for future business from customers. However, some hoteliers believed units should be named differently so they are not identified with the chain. These two strategies illustrate a powerful tension between strategies that allow the organization to be more consistent, and strategies that facilitate adaptation to local conditions. I analyze the failure rates of hotel chains to show that selection favored chains that employed the naming strategy that generates commitment.  相似文献

科创板采用上市后前5个交易日不设涨跌幅限制的交易规则,基于2019年7月22至2020年3月31日包括科创板在内的170个新发行股票,研究涨跌幅受限放开对科创板IPO抑价的影响。通过添加涨跌幅受限虚拟变量和交互项建立多元线性回归模型,并通过因子分析法提取代表公司基本面作为控制变量。实证结果表明,相比新股设置首日涨跌幅限制,科创板IPO抑价有了改善,并且在限制首日涨跌幅情况下,首发募集资金净额对IPO抑价负向作用显著。  相似文献

This paper empirically examines the effect of nontax revenue on demands for luxury hotels in China where the strict public financial supervision is not well-established. Results indicate the nontax revenue significantly influences luxury hotel demands across the country and that government demands have crowding out effect on private demands for luxury hotels, all of which appear more salient in Chinese underdeveloped areas with more severely deficient public financial supervision.  相似文献

在转型期的中国,随着男性与“男性危机”的焦虑“,如何成为男人”不仅仅是一个社会问题,也是一个学术问题。该研究以广州市高星级酒店男性职员为研究对象,综合运用多种质性研究方法,深入探讨高星级酒店男性职员的性别气质建构过程,发现酒店男性职员通过职业规训逐渐从“被动的绅士”演变成“主动的绅士”;通过“他者”规训逐渐从“形式美的绅士”蜕变成“内涵美的绅士”;通过“自我”规训,完成“全方面的绅士化”建构。研究呼应了男性气质身份政治的结论,同时补充了男性气质建构的内涵,认为男性气质建构是一个与空间、职业互动的过程,回应了“如何成为男人”的环境决定论观点。在实践方面,研究对于酒店人力资源管理具有一定的借鉴意义。  相似文献
